Whenever you spend time doing something, anything, that is time you are investing in that “bucket.” This is a very simple way to visualize the concept of practice time and the “10,000 hours it takes to master something.” Follow some habits that makes you successful.
1. Eat a healthy breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
There is always time to eat, and if there isn’t time to eat then something is out of balance and you’ve got bigger problems coming. The reason why making time to eat is so important is because personal health comes above everything else.
During breakfast, use that time to read. During lunch, use that time to catch up with someone, maybe make it a business lunch. During dinner, see your loved ones, your friends and your family.
2. Read for at least 30 minutes every day.
Thirty minutes is not a lot of time. You could do that on the train. You could do that while waiting in line at the grocery store. Maybe you have to piecemeal 10 minutes here and 20 minutes there, but 30 minutes of reading per day is essential to keeping your brain fresh and the knowledge flowing.
3. Meditate for 15 minutes.
Meditation is also a habits that make you successful as it is an approach to training the mind, similar to the way that fitness is an approach to training the body. “In the Buddhist tradition, the word ‘meditation’ is equivalent to a word like ‘sports’ in the U.S. It’s a family of activities, not a single thing,”
4. Remember everything happened today before going to bed.
Each night before bed, take five minutes to reflect. Jot down in a journal (writing here is important) a few things that went particularly well, and then write down a few things you’d like to do differently tomorrow.
Without reflection, you have no real direction as to where to head next. Five minutes before bed is all you need.
5. Work out and exercise for stronger physical and mental health.
We all know the benefits of exercise and we all know that we need to exercise regularly. The problem is that we just don’t do it. Schedule exercise time to your calendar and block out time to work out. Exercise improves your energy, focus, and ability to overcome setbacks, which are great qualities of a successful person.
6. Unplug from technology for a while and spend time for yourself.
We’re constantly plugged in. When we’re free, we check Facebook and Instagram. Even when we’re not free and when we’re supposed to get things done, we’re constantly distracted by our phones and computers. Get disconnected from your routine and work, even if it is only for a little while.
7. Spend time with other successful people.
First, identify the people who are more successful than you are in your industry. Or simply find out the ‘gurus’ or people who you want to learn from.
Next, find ways to spend more time with them. You want to adopt their beliefs and thinking pattern. In other words, you want to replicate their thoughts so that you too, can be successful.
