We find ourselves feeling and saying we are ‘busy’ as we try to balance career and family life. It is often inevitable that we spend more time at workplace than with family. Our own professional goals plus expectations at our workplace consume most of our time and energy. So we begin to prioritize work over our personal wellbeing. We even make our profession and designation our identity and perceive a successful career as a successful life. This lifestyle sometimes leads to disharmony in relationships. Taking care of ourselves in all aspects of life and maintain work-life balance helps us to give our best self to our relationships. It means we need to prioritize our spiritual, mental, emotional and physical, health. We need to take time out to meditate, exercise, eat well, sleep well, socialize and relax. Only then we can sustain all the responsibilities.

1. Spirituality

Spirituality teaches us a way to work the entire day remaining ‘Easy’, not ‘Busy’. When spiritual study and meditation practices are included in our routine, our inner power gets activated and helps us be more efficient, enthusiastic and quick throughout the day. It lets our soul qualities flow naturally in all our actions. This helps us maintain balance and quality in our personal life, relationships and work-life.

2. Set working hours.

Set work hours for yourself and do everything in your power to stick to them. Otherwise, before you know it, you’ll be working until midnight every night. When you leave the office, avoid thinking about upcoming projects or answering company emails.

3. Learn to say “NO”

Remember that you can respectfully decline the offers to run the extra committee at work.When you stop doing things out of your wish that will bring joy to you. That’s why say ‘No’ to for work-life balance if your don’t want to do it..

4. Fight the stress and guilt.

We are not Superheroes who can devote 100% to everything they do. Stop feeling guilty if you miss your favorite sports match.

In the last 20 years pressures are getting high but we have done very little to accordingly increase our inner strength to face them. So we feel stressed in certain areas of life. Stress is not about a situation. It is an emotion we have created in response to it.

5. Set your priorities.

Boss, overwork, targets, desires, family or friends do not create imbalance, so they cannot restore balance. It is only up to us. Balance returns when we take care of our mind and body, before other responsibilities. Today some of us aren’t happy at home, aren’t happy at workplace, aren’t happy anywhere else either.

Our priority has been – to be Successful, Happy, Healthy. We need to get the priority right – to be Happy, Healthy, Successful.

6. Have Holidays

Make time for a holiday and book in breaks, at least quarterly. Even a long weekend every quarter is better than nothing.

But remember to advise your clients and customers as far in advance as possible.
